Even though I'm not a foodie, I know my dohl-soht-bi-bim-bab (I'm Korean).
This place is overpriced, the service is negligible and the food is not great. The kimchi is lackluster (and should never be placed on one plate with a hot entree). Our waitress was not pleased with our requests for refills on our iced teas and diet cokes.
One star for the convenient location with the sound of the Amtrak going by and large portions. Minus four for everything else.
This place has never let me down.
I've been here only twice; the first time was just my girlfriend and I, the 2nd was me, her, her sister and boyfriend. We each ordered different items shared plates on each of these occasions to maximize our dining experience.
The most notable plate is the Super Rib Combination. To quote their menu, it is "A magnificent combination of big, Beef Spare Ribs, Pork Spare Ribs, and delicious, Short Ribs, all, marinated and grilled, up bubbling n tasty!" Basically, it is a heaping plate of ribs, piled high on top of each other. I'm not an expert on Korean food, but regardless of authenticity, this is a VERY tasty dish. My other favorite of theirs is the BBQ Unagi plate (grilled eel)...that thing is PACKED with flavor!
If you're in the area, make sure you check this place out, you won't regret it!

I went here last night with my co-workers. After reading the reviews, I was a bit skeptical about the place but I am the type of person who likes to experience things for himself.
I dislike to write it but this is going to be my first BAD review.
I called yesterday to make a reservation for about 13 people and when I arrived, I was hassled about the whereabouts for my party of 15 by the lady. I told her that I only made reservations for 13. I don't know why I was being questioned, it wasn't like it was busy or packed with mouth-watering, starving customers. When I arrived, there were only a family of seven who probably were the family members of the owners.
Before we even sat down, the lady asked if my party of 15 were going to show up and if not then they would need the "extra" table back. I looked around at the empty place and turned my head and said, "sure." The rest of my party arrived and we began to order. They didn't serve us water until after we ordered our food and asked for some. I don't know a place where that ever happens.
They gave us our water/drinks when they were serving us our plates. Anyways, the service was slow when it was already slow to begin with. You would think that the only two parties there would have super fast service but not at this place.
I ordered the Super Rib Combo which sounded delicious and looked good on paper but when I got my plate, it wasn't so appealing after all. All I have to say about their ribs is that I cook way better ribs than this place ever will. The ribs were drenched in this watered-down "teriyaki" sauce, the meat was old and had no flavor. My rice was microwaved and soggy with the sauce that I still hope was teriyaki.
Everyone else said they enjoyed their dish but then again, they never had Korean food. I'm not a b**ch but I will make myself heard if I don't enjoy what I'm eating and even though I didn't pay for my dinner, they should of paid us for eating their crappy food.
The dessert plate was a joke. It was pretty much vanilla ice cream, with tempura bananas that were old, canned pineapples and mandarins covered in whip cream and chocolate syrup. Oh, I forgot the three cherries on top. I wonder if they added all of that cream and syrup so that we couldn't really taste it.
I usually finish my food but after eating most of it, I was beginning to feel sick. The lady asked if I wanted a bag and I said no when I really wanted to say, "yes, so I can throw up!" I know that was mean but I'm being serious. This place is terrible with a capital T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E!
Real spacious place but with the crappy food along with the bad service, I say skip this place and go to Panda Express. Shoot, go anywhere else but here. You won't be missing out on anything. I read a review that was complaining about when the train would pass by, I say, it actually helped me not to think of the crappy food I was eating.
Crappy food with bad service.
Overall, this place I know for sure I won't be going back to.
I give this place 20 thumbs down (10 people X 2 thumbs)!!!

Hahn's Hibachi use to be one of the bright spots in Jack London but these days it seems to be lack luster.
I've eaten at this place on many occasions and over the years it seems as if the portions keep getting smaller and the prices keep going up. I was a big fan when it first opened but now I'll ONLY go here if someone is in a dying need of some bi-bim-bab.
Don't get me wrong the dishes are BIG but they creatively spread out the portions so it looks like you're getting your moneys worth. They also give you a insane amount of rice so you'd think you'll be full.
I'd usually get the Pile O' Pork, like i said earlier it use to be good, but now I'll like to refer to is as a Pile O' Sh*t. The dishes come out slow which makes the food cold.
Desert. Man I was in love with their Flaming Banana. This dish used to add the finishing touch to the meal but again I'm disappointed because it's gotten smaller! I saw the price go up from 2.75, to 3.50, to 4.50, then 5.50, now 6.75!!! WTF it's just ice-cream, banana's, and brandy caramel sauce!
I know it's not their fault but the location is RIGHT next to the train tracks. At times you'd think that there's a shift in theSan Andreas Fault so get ready loud trains disturbing your meal.
If you're looking for over-priced Bi-Bim-Bab then my friend come to Hahn's Hibachi where they'll gladly take your money and laugh at you when you leave!

Sure, I'd rather be writing a review for French Laundry, Martini House, or even some really authentic hole-in-the-wall, but sometimes you work with what you've got. And sometimes what you've got is that you're at Jack London Square on foot, or with only a certain amount of time before a movie, or...who knows? There aren't exactly a lot of great selections down there, and then the city wonders why life has not magically breathed itself into JLS.
This is not terrible. In fact, if you don't think of it as Korean food, it's actually quite acceptable. Kinda like Crepes a Go-Go isn't bad if you don't think of it as a real crepe, but a sort of crepe-like pancake food filled with yummy things. So close your eyes, and imagine you've never had authentic Asian cuisine. Imagine you are in, say, Bakersfield, and you have to choose between MacDonalds, Arby's, Sizzler (for the formal crowd), a coupla other greasy spoons, and this. Okay, I'm not hating on Bakersfield, so don't mail me about it, it's just a fer-instance. Hahn's would be AWESOME, a gourmet oasis in a sea of deep-fried hell and fast food desperation.
The ribs are very meaty, the portions are good, fried oysters tasty, you can eat vegetarian, everything seems clean and fresh, and ok, the sauces are kinda muddy and glutinous, but hey, they refill your sodas, what the heck? It feels a lot healthier than most of the nearby alternatives, and you'll be full and relatively satisfied upon leaving....just as long as you don't remember that you're about 5 blocks away from Chinatown, and you shoulda probably gone for Chinese instead.

It might not be traditional, but there is something in Hahn's Bibimbap that is kinda like crack. I moved away from the Noe Valley location and have craved it ever since.
Went tonight to Jack London Square. Service was good (brought water right away, attentive to refilling drinks) - granted it was around 7pm on a holiday (Memorial Day) - apparently the best time to go is on a weeknight - not when Jack London Square is hopping with tourists and weekend revelers.
I introduced the place to my good friend who had never been before and he got the Meat Mountain - he loved it.
So, it's no 5 star restaurant, but it's a good weeknight or lunch choice.
Going to Hahn's Hibachi for Korean food is like going to Domino's for Italian food.
There is more authenticity in a Rolex from Chinatown. The food is a generic rip-off of what Korean food is supposed to be. All of the food tastes like McDonaldized versions of the authentic dishes. Very not Korean. You get small portions and everything tastes like meat covered in teriyaki, not Korean BBQ sauce (whatever it's called).
What's more disappointing is that I have friends that love this place. I dunno why, it might be the huge Hefenweizen's. Poor un-cultured friends of mine...

Ok, I think it's a given that it's not authentic Korean food, but just because it isn't doesn't mean the restaurant itself needs weak reviews.
The bottomline is, the food is great, the prices aren't too shabby, and definitely a BIG PLUS for not being 100% Korean. I mean this is Jack London, not Chinatown, your going to want to go to a nice restaurant where you don't feel awkward about people looking at you and everyone speaking Korean.
All you need to know is they have GOOD food. Don't believe all the negative reviews coming from people who are expecting real authentic Korean food.
Pork ribs are the best, meat falls off the bones!

I love it here. Yea, it's not authentic, but who really gives a shit? It's kind of like going to the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii and expecting a real luau.
I always go for the Meat Mountain. MMMMMmmmmmmmmmm..... Meat! And a whole lot of it! What else could you ask for? Well, I usually ask for more cucumbers and rice, but that's just me. The fried bananas, while not as good as other places, are the perfect way to end a meal. And that damned melon gum.
I've yet to try the udon or bibimbop, but I will some time. I will mos def be back here someday to show my friend that Oakland isn't all about the Warriors, Raiders, A's, hyphy kids, and sideshows.

I've been here twice for dinners before a show at Yoshi's. I enjoyed both meals. The barbecue is different here-I'm not sure if it's authentic Korean, and I know it's not authentic American, but it's good! Nice clean place, with decent service. Try the rib-eye steak!!
I love the BBQ Pork ribs. They are amazing and incredably affordable for lunch. I have been here several times and have to say yum!

The food is just horrid and is a disgrace to Korean food.

Hahn's Hibachi would be an excellent spot for Korean BBQ, if Hahn's were located in Louisville, KY. Here in the Bay Area, we have a number of options when it comes to Asian cuisine, and there are dozens of excellent, authentic Korean BBQ places in our backyard. Brothers in San Francisco is my personal favorite, for example.
My friend and I went to Hahn's for a really early dinner (5:15 pm or so) on Thursday. The place was EMPTY. I mean, besides the two of us, there were only three people in the entire place: the waiter, who was chattin' it up with the cook, and Gasia Mikaelian on KTVU Channel 2 talking about the South Carolina primary. I know 5:15 is not exactly "dinner rush," but in the words of an old British Airways commercial "Where is everybody?"
We ordered the appetizer sampler which contained 7 pieces of tempura, 7 stuffed jalapenos and 7 stuffed mushrooms. All were battered and deep fried, tempura-style, for your enjoyment. Jalapenos were very good and VERY spicy, but the rest of the food was just too greasy.
I ordered a BBQ beef/pork combo, which turned out to be quite dry. Unlike the appetizer, the entree seemed to have lacked grease. The meat was overcooked and, therefore, dry. The pickled bean sprouts and kimchi were soggy, but edible. The rice was, well, rice. No complaints there.
This place does not really deserve more than one star, but they get bonus points for efficient service, clean dining room and free refills on sodas. That plunging sound you hear is the sound of my standards dropping.
I would like to close by shamelessly stealing from one of the fellow yelpers, Ed C., who said that "[g]oing to Hahn's Hibachi for Korean food is like going to Domino's for Italian food."
Well said, Ed C. Well said.
Someone hand me a megaphone so I can shout "meh" at this place.
Bland food, slow service and dirty silverware. The only thing I liked is that is was cheap. Oh, and the melon gum was tastier than my dinner.
Good fast food korean food. I normally order their chicken udon, but I guess after so many chicken udon, I finally got tired of it:)
Right off there is a dichotomy within this place. Hahn (Korean) and Hibachi (Japanese). I don't know if this is intentional.
I noticed right away that it was full of non-discriminating types in suits on their respective lunch breaks. Secondly, I noticed there were pieces of tempura on most plates. I was confounded.
I ordered kalbi beef. It was smothered in teriyaki sauce. I was offended.
I may not be Korean but I know that teriyaki is Japanese and does NOT belong on Korean BBQ, ever. Hahn needs to deal with his identity crisis right away.
I agree with Judy C.--this place is not Korean. Only two stars for the unforgivable act of pouring teriyaki sauce on my beloved kalbi.
I totally forgot that there was a Hahn's here in Oaktown. I had been craving me some of their Bibimbap since I had moved away from the Noe Valley area.
The food here is decent, it satisfies the craving for Korean food, but it isn't top notch. Every time I've been to this location, the meat has been borderline dry, and the kimchee isn't as strong/fermented as I would prefer. But it does the job.
I also like the big windows that allow you to peoplewatch while you eat, and gaze at the passing trains.
This is kinda like the Panda Express of Korean food. I remember the first time someone brought me here after everyone was raving about it. I thought the food here is "eeehhh". It smells nice. But then I ordered bulgogi and the meat was really sweet. It was almost jam-like. I'd rather drive a couple more miles to downtown Oakland where there's better Korean restaurants. Or go down Telegraph Avenue heading towards Berkeley. Lots of good Korean BBQ places there. LOTS.

I can't believe that place claims to be a Korean restaurant. I did not recognize the food when it came out, not even the kimchi. The portions are whimpy. They load the plate up with rice so you think you are getting more. I ordered the combo BBQ plate since I was craving kal-bi and bulgogi. The kal-bi was drenched in this gravy.... ewww! Plus they only gave me the rib pieces with the bone, barley any meat! the bulgogi was over cooked, dry, and bland. I covered my food in chili sauce so that I could taste something. This place would pass to people new to Korean food, but it would be a sorry start. There is plenty of better places within a mile or two. The only good thing to this lunch was that I didn't pay.

I've read other peoples reviews and I know most really hate this place. But, personally I like it. Maybe it's because I don't know any Koreans or haven't actually tried authentic Korean cuisine, but for me Hahn's is pretty good. You can't really go wrong with grilled marinated meats. I've had their salad bowl topped with grilled chicken (by-the-way you can call in and pick up your order later for those who are short on time because it'll take them about 15 minutes to cook the meat, maybe longer depending on what you're getting) which came with a miso dressing. So good! The dressing is what makes the salad.
Maybe I'll be adventurous and try some real Korean food and leave this chain behind, but until then it's good food and conveniently close to work.

i've had hahn's hibachi in san francisco a few times... from the one in the castro... but it was about 4 or 5 years ago since the last time... i remember it was pretty good for what it was so a few weeks ago husband and i go to this one for dinner...
we had some bbq beef, short ribs, chicken, and pork... as well as an order of stuffed jalapenos...
the service was friendly and attentive, but the food wasn't really what i remembered it to be... i guess my palette has become finer over the years... maybe it's tasty when you're a poor college student :)
so yea it was a slight dissapointment, but oh well.... wasn't like it wasn't edible... but i think the stuff they serve would be better fitted at your run-of-the-mill shopping mall food court... but now, even the better malls have better tasting food than this so...
i guess that's it for hahn's hibachi...
yes i know this isn't authentic korean food... it's not even pretending to be... don't think it says anywhere on their menu that their food is 'korean'....
Mmm....just okay.
We had stuffed mushrooms (they were stuffed w/ meat & then fried), & then I had bbq beef & chicken & Mario had bbq beef ribs.
The sauce on the beef had a "dusky" flavor I don't like...very hard to describe, but I know it when I taste it. The meat/rice came with cucumber salad, kim chee, & bean sprout--those were pretty good.
They don't give you a ton of food...and in our case, that's a good thing, as the two of us are plate-cleaners. Sigh.
I'm giving it 3 stars b/c I ate it all & had no discernable complaints at the time, but looking back, it was unmemorable....more like 2.5 stars.

Okay, yes, it's totally Americanized and chain-y. But when my boyfriend or I has a really awful day we come here and get huge cauldrons of chicken udon soup. (Bonus if it's raining out and there are lots of trains going by -- it helps our sorry states immensely.)
Add some hot sauce until it's almost at a phlegm-draining point and pow. No more bad mood.
I'm Jewish, and won't pretend to know authentic Korean food well. But I pick Han's udon over matzo-ball soup for comfort food. (Unless my mom is cooking, then it's a different story. )
But there *is* something about coming here on a rainy Tuesday. The waitstaff is so, so nice. And it's a good slice of Oakland in terms of clientele -- tourists and locals, all races, families, couples and the occasional lonely business man.

I pass here everyday, but I rarely stop, despite the enticing aroma of barbeque that wafts from the place. Eating here I was disappointed, it was fine, but not as good as the Hahn's in San Francisco. The service was terrible, even though that seems to be the norm in Oakland. I did feel safe, at least 6 OPD officers and 2 CHP officers were having dinner when I stopped in.

It is a cute contemporary place to have good BBQ and afterward, you can take a stroll near the water or catch a flick down the way. Out of all the places to eat at Jack London Square, this is where I love to go.
The stuffed mushrooms, combination BBQ platter & flaming peaches is the recipe of my meal. I hope Hahn's Hibachi never goes away! Mmmmm

If you're not craving for "quality" food, then go for it.
It's been a while since my last visit. And now I remember why I had forgotten about this place.
I was seated right away. Though they were out of coffee, they didn't offer to make a fresh pot or anything. The waitress looked constipated, never cracked a smile whatsoever. She got my order wrong. The food was bland. It tasted like someone dumped on watered-down teriyaki sauce and threw it on the grill ... no seasoning, just sauce. The dessert was somewhat better, but nothing to rave about though.
Unless you're famished, don't waste your time here.

Good food, Good Service, Overall good experience. I have tried almost all of the meats they offer and all of them are good. The Bibimbop is a new treat a friend got me to try and it was delicious. I am hooked. All of their meats are cooked pretty well. I have not ventured much from meat dishes and the bibimbop. The place is crazy clean for a Korean restaurant. It is COMPLETELY Americanized, but the food is good, service is quick and courteous.
Yesterday I started a new job and one of my biggest concerns (other than figuring out what to wear) was what to do about dinner. Should I pack a lunch? If so, brown bag or my Underdog lunch box? Ok, I don't have an Underdog lunch box but would love one if you know where I can find an original. I decided to play it safe and not bring anything and see what all the cool kids were doing for dinner. As it turns out they all brought their own from home so I was left to my own devices. Luckily for me I had an hour to find some food and Jack London Square is a short walk from the station. That's how I ended up at Hahn's Hibachi. The bbq chicken was tasty, portions were huge and it turns out I even enjoyed the kim chee that came with my meal.
Thank you, Hahn's, I'll be back

Nothing says Korean fast food like Flaming Bananas Foster.
Are you kidding me? Why do so many people like this place and why is it even called "Korean?"
Let me spell it out, what do all these have in common?
-Sweet Sour Pork
-Chicken Chow Mein
-49er Roll
They're all Asian foods that aren't really that Asian.
Don't get me wrong, i can have a low threshold for inauthentic foods, but Hahn's Hibachi is so far from Korean food, or even the semblance of it.
Case in point:
The "Bi Bim Bap"
That's a dish that college students experimenting in Korean cuisine would come up with. Is it good? Not bad. Is it Korean? Absolutely not.
I'm no food snob, mind you--just a stickler for authenticity. Call this place a jr. TGI Fridays, just don't call it Korean.
Good points:
The BBQ chicken is pretty good
I love the sticks of Korean gum you get with the bill
It's close, walking distance (haven't been there in years)
Uhh...what?
After hearing how much my date raved about this place, I think I was sorely disappointed. True, the meat mountain is HUGE, and he enjoyed it, but my dol sot bibimbap was SHITTAYYYY! Go to Ohgane instead...I was like, THIS is dol sot bibimbap!? There was a POOL of freakin oil at the bottom of the pot, and the rice was not even crispy!? WTH!
I like my crispy rice... :: cry ::
Please, can someone recommend a nice korean place to eat at!?

My boyfriend (at the time) and I ran into this place to get out of the rain on Mother's Day. We ordered bowls of soup, which were steaming and humongous - they warmed us right to the bone and made our faces feel moist. Plus, they were filled with meat and lots of thick fat noodles. I best remember the flaming peach bourbon dessert, which was tart and rich with liquor.

I was VERY disappointed with this restaurant. Now, I LOVE the Hahn's Hibachi on Polk st in SF. When I lived there I would come up with any excuse to eat there. It was wonderful!....but the Jack London Square Hahn's did not even remotely live up to its Polk St. brother. The prices were significantly higher (I guess you pay for location?) and when I ordered my favorite spicy pork it came back too sweet with overly-runny sauce and the side vegetable had some strange sauce that did not compliment the meal at all. I thought that maybe I was just hating on them because they weren't exactly like the Hahn's in the city so I tried it again the next time I was at Jack London and it was as bad as I remembered it.... If you want the Hahn's Hibachi experience go to the one on Polk. PLEASE!

I used to hate this place because the first time I ate there, I got the udon and it was one of the worst I've ever had.
Now, I am a convert. True, they're very Americanized, but I do appreciate places like Baja Fresh and Panda Express for what they are. Just because a place isn't authentic doesn't automatically mean the food is no good.
The lunch combos here are excellent deals even though it sucks that you have to get a nasty chicken jun.
My pack of guy buddies practically wept with joy upon discovery of the "Meat Mountain." We thought it was hilarious when a frazzled vegan sort walked by, saw it, and looked utterly appalled.
I would eat here more but I myself am a part-time vegetarian. They do have an array of salads but that's sort of like going to KFC and getting a salad. No way.
update: ----------------------------------------
they've expanded!
and, in the lunch combo, you can now get potstickers instead of a nasty chicken jun (although the potsticker filling tastes suspiciously like the chicken jun...)
still, i repeat, the lunch special is quite a bargain! we gorged ourselves and still had leftovers to take home. plus it's nice you can get the special on a weekend day (sat). most places only reserve bargain lunches for weekdays.

Not the best, but pretty damn good, and they serve heafty portions.
I couldn't say much about the rest of the menu, being as I haven't had the oppertunity to try any thing else due to lack of space in my belly. I think they could use some help with their wine and beer selection though.
